Warden Woods Community Centre

Location: Scarborough,
Ontario

The FAMILY SUPPORT programme aligns with the City of Toronto Poverty Reduction Strategy.  Our community has always been under the clutches of poverty. Residents are denied the right to lead a decent and dignified life. “Poverty is like punishment for a crime you didn’t commit.”  With the initiation of the Family support services we hope to focus on some of the issues of poverty and provide an opportunity for community members to fully participate in activities that enhance their well- being  We hope that our new initiative will begin to support few families in their effort to overcoming poverty and grow to support many more in the years to come.

For a period of one year, the programme will support 20 to 40 families to receive bi-weekly Good Food Boxes containing nutritious food items, Home cleaning supplies, health and hygiene supplies and children’s school supplies, programme subsidies for Zumba and Sewing classes, skill development workshops such as Food Handling, CPR, Resume writing, Job Bank. So we are looking for donations like school supplies for children, health and hygiene supplies and home cleaning supplies. We plan to launch the programme in September and so looking for School supplies to be collected by August.
